Sim Only or Prepaid: What’s the difference?

Sim Only

Sim Only is a subscription that lets you call, send texts and use data all for a super-low price. Lebara lets you adjust your bundle for free each month. That way, you always enjoy maximum flexibility.

Prepaid

With prepaid you don't have a fixed subscription. You buy credit in advance with which you can make calls, send texts and use the Internet. The rates are less affordable than Sim Only. Used all your credit? Then you can still receive calls.

Free Lebara to Lebara

Do you have friends and family with Lebara Prepaid or Sim Only? Then you can call each other for free! Calls from Lebara to other Dutch Lebara numbers within the Netherlands are free for 30 days after the last top-up (with the exception of data bundles). A fair use policy does apply. After the free period our standard rates for mobile calls apply. Rates are charged per minute.

Mobile data

With Lebara 10=30 a charge of 15 cents per MB applies. This is charged per 100 kB. The rates for mobile internet are the same in the European Union, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Starting rate from

Lebara 10=30 has a starting rate between 19 and 27 cents per call. Starting rates vary depending on whether you are calling a mobile or a landline. If you call from outside the Netherlands (roaming), you will not be charged a starting rate. Do you want to call a service number? If so, then the starting rate may vary.

Voicemail (1233)

If you have Lebara 10=30, you pay 20 cents per call each time you call your voicemail.

Free Lebara to Lebara

Do you have friends and family with Lebara Prepaid or Sim Only? Then you can call each other for free! Calls from Lebara to other Dutch Lebara numbers within the Netherlands are free for 30 days after the last top-up (with the exception of data bundles). A fair use policy does apply. After the free period our standard rates for mobile calls apply. Rates are charged per minute.

Mobile data

With Lebara One, the rate is 1 cent per MB and is charged per 100 kB. The rates for mobile internet are the same in the European Union, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

Starting rate from

Lebara One has a starting rate between 15 and 25 cents per call. Starting rates vary depending on whether you are calling a mobile or a landline. If you call from outside the Netherlands (roaming), you will not be charged a starting rate. Do you want to call a service number? If so, then the starting rate may vary.

Voicemail (1233)

If you have Lebara One, you pay 12 cents per call each time you call your voicemail.

The prices shown above are the monthly fees you pay when you have a 2-year subscription. Would you rather have a monthly rolling subscription? If so, then you pay €1 extra each month.

If you want to use any of the add-ons above, you will need to have a Sim Only bundle first. With a Sim Only bundle, you can get 5 GB of data + unlimited calling and texting for just €10/month.

With a Sim Only subscription you can spend a maximum of 25 euros outside your bundle. After that, you can no longer make calls, send texts and use mobile Internet. You can still receive calls and text messages. If you purchased or renewed a 24-month Sim Only subscription before 14 July 2022, then other credits and rates apply. Check those here.

Prefer not to pay an out-of-bundle charge? Then top up your credit yourself. That is a lot more affordable.

You pay extra when you call service numbers (such as a company’s customer service hotline). That means you pay extra costs to the service number provider on top of the the usual costs you pay to Lebara.

Unlimited calling and texting

You get 150 calling minutes and 150 text messages per month as standard. For 1 euro extra per month, you get unlimited calls and texts. Double your 4G internet speed

Your standard internet speed is 75 Mbps (for download) and 25 Mbps (for upload) using the super-fast KPN 4G network. Need an even faster connection? Choose this add-on and we’ll double your download speed to up to 150 Mbps and triple your upload speed to up to 75 Mbps.

Unlimited calling to 44 countries

Do you regularly make calls from the Netherlands to non-Dutch numbers, such as Poland (+48) or Morocco (+212)? For 5 euros per month, you can make unlimited calls and send unlimited text messages from the Netherlands to the countries listed below. You can easily turn this option on or off via MyLebara. Check the tool at the bottom of this page to see what you pay to call to or from a country.

Data cap

Data cap is an extra option for €0.50 per month. With this option, you can't use any data when your data bundle is empty, so you can't incur any unexpected extra charges outside of your bundle. We will automatically notify you when your data bundle runs out. Need more data? You can always top up your bundle with extra credit.

Voicemail (1233)

To call your voicemail outside your bundle costs 12 cents per call. If you are calling within your bundle, calls to voicemail are free as long as you have enough minutes of calling credit.

Out-of-bundle credit and rates before 14 July 2022

If you purchased or renewed a 24-month Sim Only subscription before 14 July 2022, then your out-of-bundle credit will be a maximum of 10 euro. Different rates also apply for calling, texting and internet outside your bundle. You can find these below.

Frequently asked questions

Of course! It’s easy to buy additional data or calling bundles via MyLebara or in the MyLebara app.

Your usage is calculated per call minute, text, or 100 kB of data.

When your bundle is depleted, you pay the out-of-bundle rate of 15 cents per minute/text and 10 cents per MB. You pay this rate until you reach the maximum of 25 euros. After that, you can no longer use data, make calls or send texts. Of course, you can still receive calls and text messages. If you purchased or renewed a 24-month Sim Only subscription before July 14th 2022, then other credits and rates apply. Check those here.
For calls to service numbers (such as 0900 numbers), extra costs apply. These calls are always excluded from your bundle and will appear on your bill under 'usage outside your bundle'.

Sim Only

Within the European Union (incl. Switzerland and the United Kingdom), you can use your bundle to make calls and send texts to other EU countries or use mobile data at no extra cost. We will always send you a text message when you reach 80% and 100% of your calling minutes, text messages or data usage.

Prepaid

Do you use Prepaid and want to call abroad from the Netherlands? Then you need one of the following Prepaid products:

  • 10=30
  • Lebara One
  • All in International
With the All in International bundle, you can call and text from the Netherlands to 44 countries at the same rate as to the Netherlands. You can’t make calls and send texts to countries that are not included in the bundle.


Mobile internet

With Prepaid, you can surf the internet within the European Union (incl. Switzerland and the United Kingdom) at the same low rates as at home. Further from home? Outside the EU, you can only use data with 10=30 or Lebara One. Other rates also apply.

For Sim Only, the maximum speed is 75 Mbps download and 25 Mbps upload. For Prepaid, there is a maximum speed of 25 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload for All in NL, All in International and data bundles.

Always make sure that the data roaming option is on. You can find it in the settings of your phone. Is it still not working? Then turn your phone off and on again.
